Music Teacher Email Scams

The SAA is aware of growing concern about email scams. Please be informed that any time you have your email address online, including posting your information on our Teacher Location search, you are open to receiving these sorts of emails.

One specific scam currently circulating requests lessons for a child traveling from abroad, whereby the parent plans to send a check to the teacher. The teacher is instructed to cash the check and keep their fee, but send the rest of the funds to a “caregiver”.

If you receive email that you believe to be deceptive or suspicious, please forward it to . The Federal Trade Commission uses these spam reports to take law enforcement actions against those who send deceptive email. Other valuable information about limiting the amount of spam you receive and protecting your personal information may be found at the FTC website.

Teacher Training Auditions

Now is the perfect time to send in your video audition for teacher training this summer.

Teacher video auditions are due at least 8 weeks prior to the start of your training course. Auditions results can take two months or more—get it in by March 31 to beat the rush.

Ask the Experts #22

Ask the Experts

Why do we have an appointed board and not an elected board?

The Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA) does not have an appointed board as you suggest. Our by-laws state that, “At least two of the vacancies created by the expiration of the [Board of] Directors’ terms shall be filled by a majority vote of the voting members from the nominees presented by the nominating committee and approved by the Board.”

The Board of Directors of the SAA has developed a process for electing new board members known as the endorsed slate method. Over a period of about six months, the nominating committee undertakes a painstaking process of document review and personal interviews, which results in a diverse slate of highly qualified and enthusiastic nominees. Once the endorsement of the full board is received, the slate is presented to the membership for its approval in an annual election.

While the mission of the SAA is clear, can you explain the structure and function of the SAA? How is it organized? Who is on the board? How is it elected? What is the term of officers? Are they volunteer or paid positions? What are the qualifications to serve? College education? How do you manage finances?
