International Ensembles

Allegro!!! String Performance Ensemble

Allegro!!! String Performance Ensemble

Edward Kreitman, Director

The Allegro!!! Show is a multimedia presentation consisting of live musical performance, choreography, costumes, lighting and video visual effects. The Allegro!!! String Performance Ensemble is made up of 16 talented youngsters ranging in age from 10 to 15. The students all study violin at the Western Springs School of Talent Education or the Naperville Suzuki School. The Allegro!!! performers have delighted audiences in venues across the country. This highly unusual concept was developed by their director, Edward Kreitman, when he realized the need to motivate his young string students with more than just typical classical performance experiences. While the highest musical standard is always the first priority in the show, the additional aspects such as costumes, lighting and choreography make the presentation much more appealing to both the performer and the audience members.

Cellissimo

Cellissimo

Sally Gross, Director

Cellissimo is made up of 15 cellists from the Western Springs School of Talent Education and the Naperville Suzuki School. Sally Gross has met weekly with the group since 2003. The students range in age from 7 to 18 and study in Suzuki Book 5 and above. Besides participating in scheduled school activities and regular master classes, the students also actively perform in local outreach projects. Sally is pleased to present a program of music written by cellists at the 2010 Suzuki Conference including the premier performance of Carey Beth Hockett’s Cellodrum Blues.

Suzuki Principles in Action

SPA logo

Suzuki Principles in Action (SPA) is a course designed to help teachers incorporate Suzuki’s principles effectively in their teaching. The course is designed to focus on how to teach, not what to teach, and to allow for the sharing of ideas among all instrument areas. It is based on Dr. Suzuki’s belief that knowledge is an important first step, but “knowledge plus 10,000 times” is what produces ability. This important principle, which teachers frequently explain to their students, applies equally to the art of teaching.

The inspiration for SPA came from a need, identified by both Trainers and Teacher Workshop Participants, to deal with the challenges of implementing the knowledge gained from Unit courses into the reality of day-to-day studio teaching.

Edmonton Suzuki Flute and Recorder Society Haiti Fundraiser

The Edmonton Suzuki Flute and Recorder Society used their annual Winter Recital in January 2010 as a fundraiser for earthquake relief in Haiti.

They raised $226.50 with a silver collection at the door, but with the matching grant for donations from the Canadian government, that means $453 will be going to the Red Cross.
