Parents as Partners Online is now off and running!

It’s not too late to register, as early bird prices continue through January 30. You’ll benefit from listening to 61 talks, 45 of which are brand new! Here’s a sampling of ideas being shared during the PPO series:

  • “By fostering a sense of ownership we are helping build the child’s identity and self-esteem which will eventually translate into a happy human being with noble heart.” (Shu-Yi Scott in Helping Students Take Ownership of their Musical Journey)

  • “Trust the growth process. If you are consistent, patient and trying in your home practice then you will have success.” (Brittany Gardner in Advice and Encouragement for Suzuki Parents)

  • “Observe everything, ignore most, work on one.” (Shinichi Suzuki quote from Jentry Barrett’s talk Building a Growth Mindset)

  • “All children are born curious with a true desire to learn and it is our job as Suzuki parents and teachers to keep that curiosity intact.” (Cecilia Calvelo-Hopkins in Helping Students Take Ownership of their Musical Journey)

SAA Annual Fund

Thank you to the many individuals and organization who have supported the SAA through donations this past year! Our organization is able to thrive through your contributions and dedication. If you haven’t had a chance to contribute yet, we still welcome donations of any size. Many giving options exist to help our association grow and maintain its services to the greater Suzuki community, and donations to the SAA are IRS tax-deductible! Check out these unique donation opportunities:

  • Consider honoring someone special in your life by dedicating a star in their name! Visit the updated Giving Galaxy of Stars and choose a shining star that best fits your wishes. Whether bronze, silver, gold, or a full constellation, your tribute will be everlasting in the full galaxy.
  • Donate to one of the Scholarship Funds, which enable teachers to start or further their valuable teacher training. Your impact on another teacher’s life will help make their dream come true, and spread Suzuki education around the world.
  • Contribute to the We Are Suzuki annual fund drive, which helps support the Suzuki community as a whole.

We appreciate the generosity of all, which truly helps us to reach and enrich many lives through the Suzuki Method!

Suzuki Principles in Action: Upcoming Courses

Suzuki Principles in Action (SPA) is a two day, cross-instrumental course designed to help teachers incorporate Suzuki’s principles effectively in their teaching. The inspiration for SPA came from a need, identified by both Trainers and Teacher Workshop Participants, to deal with the challenges of implementing the knowledge gained from Unit courses into the reality of day-to-day studio teaching.

The course focuses on how to teach, not what to teach, allowing the sharing of ideas among all instrument areas. SPA is based on Dr. Suzuki’s belief that knowledge is an important first step, but “knowledge plus 10,000 times” is what produces ability. Read More…

Upcoming Courses will be held in:

Berkeley, CA Sign up by February 21!
Ann Arbor, MI   Sign up by March 1!
Indianapolis, IN Sign up by October 1!

Want to Host a SPA Course?

The SAA is now accepting requests to host a Suzuki Principles in Action course in your area for Fall 2015.

SAA Board Meeting January 2015

Many thanks to the Greater Philadelphia Suzuki Association for hosting the SAA Board at their Winter Social this January!

Chapter Affiliates are extremely important to the SAA because they allow the philosophies and goals of the organization to be implemented at the local level, and likewise, the Chapter Affiliate receives the benefits of recognition and promotion at the national level. In essence, Chapter Affiliates are one of the most important and effective keys to weaving your local Suzuki community into the whole national and international Suzuki movement.

Chapter Affiliates are not only beneficial for the international community, but most importantly, they are valuable to you. Chapter affiliation benefits you and your area in the following ways:

  • Helps you connect more closely with the teachers in your area.
  • Offers education and support for both teachers and parents.
  • Offers scholarships and other benefits for students and teachers.
  • Keeps you updated through websites and newsletters posting local events and other information.
  • Directly associated with the SAA and is given support and resources by the SAA.
