SAA Volunteer Spotlight: Gabriel Villasurda

SAA Volunteer Spotlight

This new Suzuki E-News feature will spotlight a different SAA volunteer or group of volunteers each month. We’re grateful for their contributions to the organization, and they deserve recognition!

This month’s SAA Volunteer Spotlight features Gabriel Villasurda, a moderator of the SAA Discussion Forum, along with May’s featured volunteer, Jennifer Visick.

Gabriel Villasurda

Gabriel Villasurda is a retired school orchestra director of forty-two years and has a private studio of eight students.

He got involved with Suzuki and began training in the 1970s, and completed his training in England in the ‘80s. He also travelled to Japan to observe Dr. Suzuki teach in Matsumoto.

Mr. Villasurda volunteers for the SAA “for the common good,” he said. “The world runs on volunteer labor. It’s important to do one’s part.”

To nominate a volunteer to be featured in the SAA Volunteer Spotlight, email .

Japan Relief Benefit News Briefs

In the aftermath of the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, the birthplace of the Suzuki Method, many SAA members participated in or organized fundraisers to benefit disaster relief efforts. If you or your studio or program participated in a benefit event, please send the SAA a one- to two-page news brief covering the event. We also welcome high-resolution (300 DPI or higher) photos with captions and parental permission to print photos of minor children.

Email submissions are encouraged and may be sent to with “Japan Relief Benefit” in the subject line.
