Board Ballot (Active Members Only)
Active members can now vote on the 2010 board ballot. Voting members without an email address will be mailed a paper ballot. The four candidates are Dan Browning, Sarah Bylander Montzka, Patricia Purcell, and MaryLou Roberts. You have until April 10th to submit your vote. The conference is being held at the Hilton Minneapolis hotel in downtown Minneapolis, MN. Special discounted hotel rates are available from May 25 to June 2. Singles and doubles are $103/night, plus tax. Children 18 and under may stay with parent/chaperone at no additional charge. Register early to reserve your preferred accommodations. SAA hotel discount rates end on May 6, so book your Hilton room soon! Minnesota Orchestra TicketsThe Minnesota Orchestra is offering discounted tickets to our Conference attendees. A 20% ticket discount is for the Subscription Concerts May 27, 28, and 29. You can order using the code SUZUKI. Program for those concerts with Osmo Vänskä conducting and Christian Tetzlaff, violin, includes Dvorak: Serenade for Winds; Bartok: Violin Concerto #2; and Stravinsky: Petrushka. The same discount is available for the Manhattan Transfer concert on Sunday, May 30. Tickets may be ordered online from the Minnesota Orchestra website, by phone or in person at our box office during the Conference. Special treat for those who attend one of the concerts! Several of our Conference performance ensembles are performing in Orchestra Hall as part of the pre-conference series on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening! Concert tickets are required for the pre-conference performances. Participating students will be guests of the Orchestra. Bringing InstrumentsTeachers of violin, viola, guitar, flute, and recorder are encouraged to bring instruments. If possible, bring cellos and basses too. (We’ll try to borrow extras cellos.) Some informal chamber music playing opportunities are possible on Saturday evening. Certificate of Achievement Ceremony Sample Certificate of Achievement The first SAA Certificates of Achievement will be awarded at a special ceremony at the Conference in May. If you would like to be among the first to complete the Certificate and receive it at this ceremony, you must have all your application materials postmarked by March 25. You have just 10 days to get your application ready! Please note: Instructions for application have been revised for clarity. Requirements are unchanged. If you have previously downloaded the Certificate instructions document, we recommend that you use the revised version as your guide in applying for the Certificate. Thoughts on the Institute Experience Suzuki Institute students at the duck pond by Jan McClure As I write, I am sitting near the duck pond on the beautiful Emory and Henry College Campus, near Abingdon, Virginia. Another Summer Suzuki Institute has come to a close, leaving me with wonderful memories – gifts too precious to be forgotten. As I think back over the years, I realize how meaningful the Institute experience is to both my family and me. For some twenty years, I have attended Institute: as a Suzuki mom with children in tow, as a teacher trainee, and in recent years, as a member of the faculty. If you don’t want to receive Institute info via email from the SAA, update your email preferences and change “Institute Info” to No. Six-Year Old Winner Six-year-old Suzuki Pianist Gavin George has been named a Gold Medal winner in the competition sponsored by The American Association for Development of the Gifted and Talented. Gavin will perform in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on April 18 in the “Passion of Music 2010″ Festival. He will perform Mendessohn’s Venetian Gondola Song, Op. 30, No. 6. Gavin can also be seen and heard on YouTube. Congratulations to Gavin and his teacher, Mary Craig Powell!
