2011 Leadership Retreat: Fort Worth, TX, May 26-29

SAA’s 9th Biennial Leadership Retreat, “Creating the Future Together 2011,” will take place in May at the American Airlines Training and Conference Center near the DFW Airport in Fort Worth, Texas. This year’s theme will feature Communications as well as other leadership topics of interest to Suzuki teachers.

Teacher Trainers, Institute Directors, Conference Team, Chapter leaders and all others interested in leadership development are welcome to attend.

Sessions for Teacher Trainers will begin at noon on Thursday, May 26, 2011. Sessions for all other participants will begin at noon on Friday, May 27, 2011. Most events and sessions will conclude by 4:00 PM Sunday, May 29.

Similar to past Retreats, a Complete Meeting Package will be offered, to include participants’ hotel room, all meals, registration fees and other event costs. Free transportation to and from DFW Airport is included. Food is excellent and the facility is quite comfortable and attractive.

Registration will open February 28. Watch for details on the website. Don’t miss this special event!

What is the purpose of the SAA “focus group” meeting at Institutes?

The SAA is a huge organization with about 8,000 members in North, Central, South America, and beyond. While the membership consists primarily of Suzuki teachers, it also includes parents, educators, and others who are interested in supporting music education for children.

Your Board of Directors currently has twelve members, who are charged with the mandate of representing the membership and governing the organization according to Dr. Suzuki’s vision for the world’s children. The dedicated and skilled SAA staff at the head office in Boulder, Colorado, organizes and runs the many programs which work towards achieving this vision.

Frank Longay, 1948-2011

It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Frank Longay on Wednesday, January 19.

Frank was a founding member and chairman of both the Guitar Committee of the International Suzuki Association and the Guitar Committee for the Suzuki Association of the Americas. Frank took a leadership role in developing a graded repertoire for the guitar through Suzuki methodology and, as a registered Teacher Trainer, he worked tirelessly to pass along his knowledge and experience to guitar instructors in the U.S. and around the world.
