Suzuki Piano: Inspiring & Rewarding

Ever wonder how Dr. Suzuki’s philosophy and teaching approach works for pianists? Here’s your chance to discover Suzuki Piano while enjoying some very lovely music!

“Excellence from the Start—the Suzuki Piano Student’s Journey” is now a reality, after a number of years of committee efforts.

Suzuki Piano teachers had been searching for a way to publicize the Suzuki approach to learning the piano for some time. Wouldn’t it be fantastic, they mused, if Suzuki Piano were as readily recognized as Suzuki Violin! While photos and videos of young Suzuki violinists playing together in groups large and small, always leave an instant impression, such images do not work so impressively for piano. For the most part pianists are soloists and the instruments aren’t small and cute. Yet Suzuki Piano is just as unique and distinctive in its own special way!

Inspired by the Suzuki Guitar video “The Sound of Success,” a small group of Suzuki Piano teachers pooled ideas to help tell the piano story. At the 2017 SAA Leadership Retreat at Deer Park, OH, the ad-hoc Suzuki Piano Video Committee—Gail Lange, Chair, Fay Adams, Gail Gebhart, and Joan Krzywicki—went to work. They evaluated videos that had been submitted and selected photos from many teachers. Teachers at the Retreat were interviewed, providing a wealth of information to be presented throughout the video. Then with some additional footage added from the 2018 SAA Conference production of the “Carnival of the Animals,” and the amazing work of our producer Laura Wong Burnett, … Voilà!

Please enjoy the Suzuki Piano Student’s Journey!

Pumpkin Patch Concert

Pumpkin Patch Concert

Dolce Strings performs in disguise! Violinists from Dolce Music Academy performed at the largest Pumpkin Patch in Fort Bend County this Halloween. Entertaining the community with our favorite Suzuki repertoire plus some toe-tapping Texas fiddling—a good time was had by all. The concert was led by Danette Schuh, and faculty member, fiddler & Suzuki mom Aimee Petersen joined in the performance too!

Have a great picture to share? We are looking for photos of students performing in their community. Did you invite the neighborhood to a book recital? Or the general public to a group concert? Have you played in an assisted living facility, street fair, or mall? Submit your own picture or ???

TEACHER NEWS

Madrid!

International Suzuki Association

The 2nd International Suzuki Teacher Trainers Convention, October 11-13, 2019, brought together 111 Teacher Trainers from the throughout the five ISA regions, including teachers from North America, South America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the Philippines, etc. In two short days, so much was accomplished to bring everyone together around Dr. Suzuki’s dream of a world-wide community of teachers, working together for the welfare and education of children.

Much discussion and sharing supported a growing recognition that, despite the differences in how regions organize their teacher training programs, the participants shared a common vision and work toward the same goals. The theme, “Globalization and Teacher Training in the 21st C,” helped shape presentations and discussions about our future.

Participants felt renewed and inspired and declared the event a success! Many thanks to the ESA for hosting the event and to Martin Rüttimann, Carey Beth Hockett, and Sue Wimpeney for their dedication, vision, and hard work in planning and organizing the event.
