SPA Course: Seize the opportunity to learn!

“The SAA Teacher Development program has been planned with much thought, insight, and experience. Its uniqueness allows a teacher to grow, be nurtured, and cultivate skills in a layered approach.”
– Elizabeth Stuen-Walker, SAA-Registered Viola Teacher Trainer

The SAA has recently developed the Suzuki Principles in Action (SPA) course, which affirms one’s beliefs in the Suzuki philosophy and empowers teachers to be lifelong learners.

This cross-instrument two-day course focuses on how to teach, not what to teach, and helps teachers effectively incorporate Suzuki principles into lessons. SPA is based on Dr. Suzuki’s belief that knowledge is an important first step, but “knowledge plus 10,000 times” is what produces ability.

Join the 1000 teachers who have already benefited from the SPA course, and learn further tools for applying the knowledge gained from unit courses into daily studio teaching.

Read more about the course itself, plus learn how to host a course. What better way to kick-start the new school year than investing in your own teaching development?

Be sure to check the SAA website for 2016-2017 courses, posted soon!

Do your students struggle with answering the question, “How was your practice?” Samara Humbert-Hughes’ nano session explores this weekly question and offers some feedback alternatives, both from the student as well as the teacher perspective.

It’s Back to School Time!

With the school year beginning, we encourage you to take advantage of the following:

Teacher Location Service
Teachers, if you have openings in your studio, be sure to sign up for the online teacher search. This service is available to all SAA teacher members, has resulted in increased studio enrollments, and has provided a valuable resource for families. To be added to the teacher search, go to your profile account. Be sure to update any contact information (phone, email, location, etc.) that you’d like posted, as well. Note, this is an optional service, so teachers must request to listed.

Studio Memberships
Studio Memberships are a great way for families to support the SAA and receive the quarterly American Suzuki Journal. Teacher members of the SAA may collect 10 or more Associate Memberships from families in their studio for only $30 USD per family. To do so, send the SAA a typed list stating each family’s address, email, phone, instrument, plus payment.

Upcoming Events
It’s never too early to start planning for future training opportunities! Check out the Events Page of the SAA website, which is updated frequently with new course offerings.
