In a recent Journal (from the past 2—3 years), there was a chart that showed the corrolation between practice and progress. It showed that a student who practiced 15—20 minutes a day might progress through one Suzuki book in two years. I’ve been looking for this, and I can’t find it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I don’t remember where it is in the Journal but I know it’s in the book for parents: Winning Ways.

Thank you!! That’s why I couldn’t find it in my Journals. I knew that I had seen it recently, and it was driving me crazy that I couldn’t find it again. I have one student who believes that she has been working hard enough, yet only practices three or four times per week. Her progress is predictably slow (2 1/2 years per book). She recently moved up to a full size and loves her new violin. Her practice has picked up dramatically, and I want to show her the chart in the hopes that her new daily practice habits will stick.

Where can I get a copy of this book? Who is the author?

It sounds like something much of my studio could use!

You can buy Winning Ways off this website. I think it’s $12. It’s a bunch of articles for parents taken from the SA Journal from I think the last 10 years. There’s also the First Class Tips for Parents which is the same sort of thing but from earlier journals. I have both and they are really great resources. I post an article from them on my bulletin board every month.

I posted a chart in an attachment near the end of this thread:

which might be similar (or identical)—but I haven’t seen the article in question so I can’t be sure.
