I really appreciate your fast reply; I followed the link and I DO think that it’s a cabasa—or something extremely close. In any case, I went and bought a cabasa and after a few puzzling moments and a quick YouTube lesson on how to play it—I think I’ve got it down.

Charles:

I think your going to love the Cabasa. Its such a novel percussion instrument. Its like a wash board that has been curled like a cylinder
Its one you can play with out bruising your fingers.
Sometimes I grab my boyfriends when he is busy with his djembe, and roll it up and down my violin arm like a bow.
I want to get some small ones for my kids to practice following their bow path with their bow arm. I just wish they could attach the handle differently.
