As the 2010 Suzuki Institute “season” comes to a close, I wonder who out there went to a summer institute or music festival this year, and what idea or practice tips or teaching activity stood out to you? I’d love to see a list of “best” ideas that were circulating this summer! Or a story or performance or a masterclass or something else that “stood out”—what’s one of the “I’m going to take this home!” ideas—or one of the “I’m raising my playing (or teaching) to a new level” practice points?

here’s one to get started with: At the New Mexico Suzuki Institute, I took “Suzuki in the Schools” level 2 teacher training from Laurie Scott, who insisted on the idea that M-F classroom teaching can be just as effective and can have just as high of standards as private teaching. Different, yes. Substandard, no!
