Adding Cello?

My daughter is currently in violin book 4. She plays very well, but frequently tells me she wants to switch to cello. I don’t know if she really loves the cello that much, or if she just wants to try something new. She’s only 7 and very petite.

She’ll participate in our school strings program next year, and I’ve thought about letting her try cello at school. We’d still keep violin as her primary instrument.

My older daughter added viola when she joined the school orchestra and, except for learning alto clef, it was an easy transition. But, cello seems like it would be much more difficult to add.

Any thoughts?
