Hello, I have a little student whose parents have just moved to Ithaca from MA (where I am). He is 6 and started with me in January. The parents are great—very committed and attentive, and worked well with him at home. He, however, started flagging—I think in part because his lesson was rather late in the evening, and in part because of the upheaval of moving/new baby at home.

If he could get re-engaged I think he would do very well. He’s a very bright and somewhat strong-willed kid, and needs a teacher who will make him laugh and keep the energy up, but who will also be kindly firm in corralling unhelpful behaviors when necessary. Can someone in the area point me to a teacher who’d be a good fit for this kid? I have a hunch that a youngish male teacher would be ideal, but anyone who fits the above description could work. I’d love to see him get over the hump and keep going.

If he’s on cello in Ithaca, I’d strongly recommend Zachary Carcella-Sweet!

Hi Kathryn, thank you so much for responding. I should have specified that he’s a violin student.
