I teach both violin and piano, and noticed an interpretive discrepancy between the violin and piano videos. I listened to a number of videos on YouTube of this work. The violin performances show the upper note ornament as fast, which is what I would expect. The piano performances, however, show the ornament as a quarter note. See, for example:

Wonder why this difference exists, and which is more correct?

I don’t know why either, but I’ve always followed the recording and taught the first not as an eighth note. Some violin students play it as a quarter note…opposite of what you said, I think.
