Strings Ensemble Repertoire

Hello All!

I’m launching a strings ensemble for my Suzuki program and in need of repertoire recommendations. It is open to my 4th-5th grade violin students as well as 4th-5th graders who play other stringed instruments through programs outside of the school. My violin students have been playing for several years but will be reading music officially for the first time through this ensemble, while the other young musicians (currently a guitarist and cellist) have much more experience—both in Suzuki Book 3.

I’m aiming to arrange or find pieces that will engage the more experienced students while not overwhelming the beginner readers. Advice on working with the variety of instruments would also be welcome!

Thank you!

Hi Caitlin,
I have several arrangements I have created for my own string ensemble that I would be happy to share with you at no cost. Most of them are arrangements of famous works and they were designed for students raining from book 2-book4 skill level. The viola is doubled by a violin 3 part.

If you would like me to email you PDFs of some scores, I can do that and you can decide if you would like the parts.

Can you send them to me too? Thanks! I have a performance group. We also play traditional NS music and have a dancer and singer I bring in for bigger shows. This was them a year ago (after one year to put the show together) and I cant believe how much they have improoved in just that short time! Now they are doing conferences in Halifax and played on the Queen mary 2 and Princess carribean cruise ships when in port! This spring we are taking our first mini tour trip for a weekend to Ontario. Does anyone have an established performance group that would like to do an exchange or would like us to visit you? We would like to plan a second trip for next year. Thanks!

Wow … so many responses!
I have sent a couple of files out to those who answered, and I’m happy to share these scores with others as well.

If you didn’t receive the email with scores already, please email me directly at [javascript protected email address]

I have midi files for all the scores but those files are too big to email. For anyone who wants sound files, we’ll have to find another way for me to get them to you.

All my best!

Hi Trish,

Are those arrangements just for violin, or are there some that include cello as well? If so I’d be interested. [javascript protected email address]

Thanks

If it is not too late already I would love to see some of those ensemble pieces too Trish! Here is my email: [javascript protected email address]

I do have myself some I could share. Some are from Latin America that Suzuki teachers from Brazil and Peru have arranged.
Thank you very much,
Cecilia

Hi again everyone,

I’ve sent a scores and parts to everyone who has asked so far, I think. If you sent a request and didn’t receive anything, please check your junk folder.

Again, if anyone wants these ensemble arrangements, please email me directly rather than messaging me on this forum. That way I can just reply to your preferred email address.

All my best!
Trish

Hi again everyone,
I’ve posted 5 orchestra scores/parts to the www.crosscanadafiddle.com site, with two more on the way this week (remember they are on the “free stuff” page). But I wanted to mention as well that I found some good string orchestra repertoire on Sheet Music Plus, arranged by David Burndrett. He’s made arrangements of a few “masterworks” that are suitable for low intermediate groups. They are available as digital downloads and his prices are quite reasonable.

Cheers!

Trish,

The website says that you do not have any “Planxty Fanny Powers” available. Can you not receive payment and send a digital copy?

Thanks for the link to the website and for the suggestion to view David Burndrett’s things. They’re great!

I can’t seem to find your “5 orchestra parts/score” on your site.

Sorry—must be missing something. Can you direct? I went to “free stuff” page and got your “West Fork Gals” but couldn’t find the orchestra things.

Thank you for your help!

Hi Andrea,
Make sure you visit the “free stuff” page to find the string orchestra arrangements. The rest of my website is an e-store and all the other arrangements are for sale.

Once you get there, you’ll see a “string orchestra arrangements” folder. Click the title of the folder and the pdf filed will appear at the right had side.

To see the files on the “free stuff” page, you will have to either create an account or log in using
SuzukiTeacher (username)
Suzuki (password)

Cheers,
Trish

p.s. I’m fixing Planxty this morning. Thanks for letting me know :)
