flat-footed student

I have a student who is very flat-footed in the right foot, and less so in her left foot. It is causing some balanced-stance issues, and her mom—once I pointed it out—suspects that it might be related to some knee issues she has had. Some of that clearly is the domain of a medical professional, not a violin teacher, but does anyone have suggestions of how to help her be more balanced as she plays violin?

Have they considered special corrective shoes or shoe inserts aimed at this problem? It cannot be comfortable for her at a normal walk either.
