Hello! My 6 year old daughter is in piano book 3 and violin book 2. She would like to play something at our church. Does anyone have any recommendations for piano/violin classical pieces appropriate to her level and that could be performed at a church service? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Are you thinking of hymns, contemporary worship music, solo performance piece, background music for offering/communion/something, special occasion, etc.?

I have the Sacred Melodies for Violin Solo book (http://www.amazon.com/Cathedral-Presents-Sacred-Melodies-Violin/dp/1562221175) but would say these pieces are more for violin book 4 and up. My book 2 violin students who have played at their churches generally play something they’ve learned by ear.

Thank you so much! We will check it out! Any recommendations for something similar for piano? I was looking for solo pieces.

If your church accepts a “performance” of the child sharing her gift of music, a classical selection from the Suzuki books would probably be appropriate (not something too modern). It depends on the culture/expectations of the church.

If they are very “conservative” and only want sacred music, you would need specific sheet music or collections of pieces to browse through. Traditional hymns could also be figured out by ear (right hand) and accompanied with simple chords or alberti bass (left hand) but even this might be too advanced for book 3 level at age 6.

Book 1—”O Come Little Children” is a Christmas Carol and thus appropriate for playing in church.
Book 2—”Judas M” is also sung in church as “Thine is the Glory” and so is appropriate for church services.
