For a violin friend’s going away party, I wanted to make her something special to inspire her. I have always enjoyed the quotes from musicians, writers, and scholars about music and the craft of being a musician, so I created a series of stickers with popular music-related quotes on them (see photo).

Teachable Moment Stickers

Teachable Moment Stickers. Easy to make, custom teachable moments for your students. Peel and stick. Inspire and educate.

They are just small 1.5″ by 2.5″ oval stickers that you can buy as blank sheets at your local office supply store.

The company likely has online templates that you can use to design your stickers by adding text and/or images from your computer files or their stock clip art. You can print directly from here.

Part way through the project, I realized that these phrases could be used as teachable moments for my students who read. Especially for teens, asking them to write a small reflection paragraph about a significant quote is a great way to build self-reflexivity and critical thinking skills. These stickers will save me the time to write out a quotation in the lesson. Peel and stick. Easy.

Anything can go on the stickers—music theory problems to solve, music history facts or questions, anything you want to slip in as an extra teachable moment.

To give or not to give stickers is a contentious question that sparks heated debates among even the most congenial teachers. I have a feeling this “sticker” is a winner with proponents of both sides because it gives us one more chance to inspire and educate our students.
