Hi there,

I was planning to do Open String Blues today in my pre-twinkle group class but when I went to get the music, I couldn’t find it anywhere! Does anyone have a copy they could send me??

Thanks!

I will look through my files. I do think I have it. Let you know later today? My scanner isn’t working great; once something is scanned, I can never find it on the computer.

So, would snail mail be fast enough though?

I don’t see why not if it is transposed down a fifth. It is a regular blues progression. For violin, it starts in C major. It would need to start in F for viola and cello. Bass could just play it in reverse on violin version.

We’re playing “Open String Blues” on a concert tomorrow night. Long ago I wrote an advanced violin part, cello/bass part and simple harmony to go with it but I’ve never known who composed it in the first place. All I ever had was a very blurry copy of the piano/violin part. I’d like to give credit where due.

Who wrote it? I’d be glad to share parts. Tomorrow we’re even adding drums. Very cool!

Hi everyone,

I have CDs and the digital recording of Bruce Patterson’s *Open String
Blues* which he recorded for our daughter to use when she was a
pre-twinkler.

I have used the CD with many pre-twinklers, adults and children alike, with
beginning strings classes in public school, and I have also used the CD
with students working on improvisation skills.

There are 8 tracks:
1. E string blues
2. A string blues
3. D string blues
4. G string blues
5. E-A-E-A mellow blues
6. A-D-A-D mellow blues
7. D-G-D-G mellow blues
8. E-A-D-G epic upbeat blues

I’m happy to make extra copies of the CD and send it to anyone who will
send me a stamped address CD envelope, or if you will send me a donation, I
will take care of the packing and mailing and put your donation into a
Suzuki Association of Colorado scholarship fund in Bruce’s name.

It seems like many of us would like copies of the score and parts to the Open String Blues? Can whoever has them just post them on this site so that we can all download them without pestering someone with tons of individual emails to answer? I see that there is an arrangement posted for three violins. Is there an arrangement that includes cellos and basses?— (and violas—although violin parts can be re-written)

Seems like a lot of people either know about this or are really interested in it as well. So I’ll bite….., I’ve never heard of this could someone explain how this works and if the music that has been added is the entire song already to print or is there more to it? If this isn’t in it’s entirety where can I find more about it?

Hi, The only open strings boogie I know of is in this collection called, “The String Album for Beginning String Orchestras”. By Mark Solie. It is very old. Maybe 20 years. I have the cello, violin &’piano book. It is written in big note style for the strings for notereading. There was permission to copy it at the time. I looked on line and I no longer see it.
