Thanks, Christine! As most of my students have come to me with basic reading skills I haven’t yet taught enough students to have my own “system”. I have also used the I Can Read set of books, though. I have decided that “delayed reading” does not mean that I won’t introduce early reading skills… early! I just won’t do them together with playing their instrument until they are well set up. I may use your sharpie-made cards and rhythm sticks idea. (I have a few new pre-twinklers just starting!)

Thanks Barb—I should clarify that like you, I am having students wait to start the “I Can Read Music” books until they are well set up (and reading print).
