This is a trailer for an upcoming film about an amazing youth orchestra in Paraguay. Incredibly, the children play on instruments made from trash they find in the landfill.

Looks like this will be required studio viewing. Does anyone know when and where this will be broadcast?

Yes, I am definitely eager to learn more about the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, Paraguay, and its conductor Szaran and music teacher Fabio!
Also, from the film project’s FaceBook page, re: When will the film be released?
We are still under production as the story is still evolving and taking unexpected paths for our characters. Like in most independent film projects, funds are scarce. We are trying to secure them through donations and other sources to complete production in 2013.

I found more information about the project. The Recycled Orchestra is part of a larger initiative called “Sonidos de la Tierra,” which seems very similar to the Venezuelan “El Sistema.” Sonidos de la Tierra began in 2002 under the direction of Luis Szaran, the conductor of the Asuncion Symphony. The Recycled Orchestra is in Cateura, which is a shantytown located at the city dump in Asuncion.
Here is a link to the project website (in Spanish):
