Hey everyone!

I’m looking for a collection of advanced Christmas solos for violin. Some of my students are way beyond playing a simple melody line and are in need of a challenge. Any suggestions?

A couple of collections I use are:
Christmas Favorites by Laurence Lyon and Esther Megargel (violin melody and more advanced Melodic Duet part)
Majestic Christmas Solos for Violin—Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 arr. by Gordon Schuster, Majestic Music Publications
The Jenny Oaks Baker Christmas Collection (Advanced Christmas Solos for Violin and Piano)

Check out Last Resort Music! www.lastresortmusic.com Their collection of solos for violin and piano is so beautiful, and a welcome change from the often mind-numbingly boring stuff out there. Even their arrangements of the ‘normal’ Christmas stuff has a little intrigue. Some of them are downright difficult, but they’d all be Book 5-6 material. (Incidentally, they’ve also got plenty of non-Christmas duets for two violins, etc. that are really nice, too.)

Forgot about one more Christmas collection with really appealing arrangements to youth and young adults. Very doable, mostly a bit of 3rd position work. It’s called, “My Redeemer Lives: Bethlehem” by April Moriarty and Todd McCabe. It’s pdf downloadable and very affordable at $17 for the whole collection.

Here’s the link: http://www.ldsmusicnow.com/3/songbook/April-Moriarty/

Here’s an article which correlates Christmas music with Suzuki levels. (Just posted on SAA Linked In group.)
