I just got an iPad! I Know it will be an excellent tool for my teaching. I’m just wondering, how my fellow Suzuki teachers use it in their lessons and what apps do you use?

On a smaller scale here… I got an iPod Touch for Christmas. Hoping for some responses here to your question! There are a few ideas here: http://www.musicteachershelper.com/blog/ipad-for-the-music-teacher/

Now that I have joined the i-World I hope to also offer suggestions to my students. Two things I have used it for already are pretty obvious: Listening, and playing along.

I am learning a new piece and during the busy holiday season I had the YouTube (best recording I found) up on my computer and was continually stopping by the computer (in my kitchen) and hitting “replay”. Now I’ve got it on my iPod (did you know you can save YouTube videos to your computer? I just learned about and used www.keepvid.com), and set it to loop, and carry it with me so I can listen even more than I was.

My old method of playing along was to crank the volume on the stereo or computer (to be able to hear it over my cello), press play, and run over to my practice area, usually missing the first note. Now the earbuds allow me to do this without blasting others from the room, and no more running. And I can easily adjust the volume from my seat if I didn’t get it just right to start with.

I PLAN to start using the timer to help in practice time, too. Setting it for a short 2 or 3 minutes to help keep me focused on things I need to work on. Not that I couldn’t do that with a kitchen timer, but you know, a new toy….

I haven’t had much time to look into apps yet—would love to hear everyone’s favorites!

Thanks for that!

Anne Crosby’s piano books are great fun, by the way.
