Upcoming Suzuki Principles in Action Courses

Now is the time to plan SPA courses!
Would you like to have SPA offered in your area?
We need your help!

Check out what’s involved in hosting a course.

What is SPA?
Suzuki Principles in Action (SPA) is a course designed to help teachers incorporate Suzuki’s principles effectively in their teaching. The course focuses on how to teach, not what to teach, and to allow for the sharing of ideas among all instrument areas. It is based on Dr. Suzuki’s belief that knowledge is an important first step, but “knowledge plus 10,000 times” is what produces ability.

SPA is a prerequisite for the Certificate of Achievement.

What are participants saying about the course?

  • “I found it refreshing to be around so many Suzuki minds and talk through some of the issues of being a Suzuki teacher.”

  • “As a result of the course, I plan to improve the quality of my corrective feedback and my non-verbal communication.”

  • “I loved videotaping my lessons. It really helped to give me a perspective on what exactly I am doing during the lesson.”

  • “As a piano teacher, I expect to reconsider my use of review and find more ways to address tone.”

  • “It definitely reminded me of things I had forgotten, reinforced many things I have always used.”

  • “I found the Cycle of Success extremely useful.”

  • “The course went above and beyond my expectations. It was reassuring to find out that my problems in teaching are scenarios common to all Suzuki teachers”

SPA Entrance Requirements:
Any teacher—from very experienced to the novice—who has taught for a minimum of one year, has an active studio, and completed and registered ECC (or 1A) and Book 1 training in their instrument area. Must also be a current, Active level SAA member. Registrants must arrive on time and attend the entire session each day.

Online Assignments:
SPA includes required pre-course and post-course assignments, both of which are submitted over the internet and reviewed by the Teacher Trainer. Both assignments require you to video record yourself teaching a lesson and then self-evaluate it.
