The Aber Suzuki Vocal Performance Troupe
The Voice Program at the Aber Suzuki Center in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, has started an exciting new program offering for its students called the Aber Suzuki Vocal Performance Troupe. Last year, my older students asked me for a new performance opportunity. While my students enjoy singing on recitals, in the community, and for contests, they wondered if I could create an additional, different performance venue.

In celebration of its 40th anniversary and over 50 years of Suzuki education in the Americas, the SAA proudly announces a very special event, the Kaleidoscope Concert. A unique feature of the 15th SAA Conference in Minneapolis, the concert will take place on Friday evening, May 25, 2012.
The Kaleidoscope Concert will showcase student performers from all Suzuki instrument areas who have achieved a high level of development at a young age. In addition to outstanding musical performances, the program will feature a special guest host and interviews with the students. The event will be presented to conference attendees, aired through various media and recorded for future use by the SAA.
The SAA is setting up a library of excellent student performances in all instruments/levels. Audition materials submitted for the Kaleidoscope Concert may also be considered as additions to the archival library.

The American Suzuki Institute is currently the only institute in North America to offer teacher training in voice. This year’s Voice Level One Teaching Training will take place July 30 to August 6 at the American Suzuki Institute in Stevens Point, WI. The audition deadline has been extended. Mikaela Schneider, a sixteen-year-old Suzuki student from the Milwaukee area, performed in four concerts at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. with Marvin Hamlisch, December 9-12. She also performed with Hamlisch and the Dallas Symphony December 4th and 5th.
Mr. Hamlisch invited Mikaela to sing at the Kennedy Center Holiday Concert last year after hearing her sing Schubert’s Ave Maria in the Milwaukee Symphony’s Holiday Concert. This year he invited her to sing in Washington, D.C. and in Dallas as well.

Aber Suzuki Center student, soprano Mikaela Schneider, 15, of Greendale, WI, a student of Suzuki voice teacher Mary Hofer, sang Schubert’s Ave Maria with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra at their holiday concert this past weekend. Guest conductor Marvin Hamlisch (also conductor of the National Symphony Pops Orchestra), was so impressed with her performance that he asked her on the spot to sing four concerts at the Kennedy Center this coming weekend, December 12th and 13th! Hopefully during rehearsal she will get to visit with ASC alumni Joel Fuller, violinist, who is a member of the National Symphony Orchestra.

Estamos muy felices porque el Séptimo Encuentro Internacional de Voz Suzuki “Canciones para compartir” se realizó en Argentina del 2 al 8 de Enero de 2009.
Ha sido maravilloso compartir la música, el canto y el amor como parte de un mismo espíritu; el del Método Suzuki. Los participantes fueron profesores capacitadores, profesores en entrenamiento y alumnos de Finlandia, Autralia, Argentina, Perú, México, Chile y Paraguay. Las profesoras capacitadoras fueron la Dra. We are very happy because the Seventh Suzuki Voice International Workshop “Songs for sharing” was held in Argentina, January 2-8, 2009. It was wonderful to share the music, the singing and the love in one same Spirit based in the Suzuki approach. Participants were teacher trainers, teachers-in-training and students from Finland, Australia, Argentina, Peru, Mexico, Chile and Paraguay. The 7th International Suzuki Voice Workshop will be held in Latin America for the first time, in La Plata Argentina, January 2-8, 2009. The workshop will include Voice Book 1 teacher training with Päivi Kukkamäki and Katrina Pezzimenti. The teacher audition deadline is November 30, 2008.
