Flute Meeting at the Conference
Following the Leadership Retreat in 2007, a group of flute teachers got together with the goal of helping the flute community to communicate effectively, despite the distance between our studios. This group, initially called a committee, has now been named the Flute Community Council, and it will continue to act as a discussion forum for any topics of interest or concern to Suzuki flute teachers. The new Suzuki Flute web page on the SAA site is one result of the group’s efforts.
We would like to invite you all to meet at the 2008 conference in Minneapolis. A special time will…
Sponsor the Latin American Suzuki Ensemble
What do Solomon, Daijah, and Ronda have in common? They were part of the Rainbow Suzuki Strings group from East Cleveland, OH, who were featured at our conference in 2006.
This past week, Solomon wrote that his trip had been important to him because he learned new things. Daijah said she felt more mature and experienced after the trip, and she will take these experiences with her throughout her life. Ronda said she now has more experience as a violinist from playing in front of our audience, and this experience calmed her nerves.
The Rainbow Strings as a whole wrote this when they heard that a Latin American Suzuki group would be coming to the 2008 conference:
Annual Meeting
The SAA Annual Meeting will take place on Friday, May 23, 1 PM in the Hilton Minneapolis Ballroom. The meeting will be combined with Conference announcements and welcoming of our sponsors and special guests.

Creating Learning Community Awards
On Conference years, SAA is pleased to recognize outstanding individuals, groups, programs and organizations through the CLC Awards program. The awards recognize those who have worked toward the development and expansion of the Suzuki learning community in the Americas or internationally, or who have helped to preserve the Suzuki legacy. These contributions must be beyond ordinary professional duties or routine work and there must be evidence that the welfare of the Suzuki community has been the primary motivation for the nominee’s work, not personal recognition or gain. Recipients must be active members of the SAA or other ISA region. You…
Encouraging Response to Conference Invitations
This year’s call for sessions and presentations brought a record number of proposals—152! With our new web-based online submission and review process, we are finding the project to be well-organized and exciting. Thanks to all of you who submitted—all of the proposals look fantastic.
But that’s not all—we set another record with student applications—a total of 373. 75% of the applicants paid their fees on our website through PayPal, which made the processing manageable.

Cello at Conference 2008
The cello committee for the 2008 Conference is pleased to announce that the master teacher will be Anthony Elliott from the University of Michigan. In addition to giving master classes, Mr. Elliot will participate in a panel discussion on preparing students for college auditions, and will also perform in the Clinicians’ Recital.
One of our high priorities this conference is making sure we have enough cellos in attendance (and, incidentally, enough cellists as well). With each succeeding conference we have seen a dwindling number of instruments in attendance due to the “unfriendly skies”. We are…

The Viola Coordinators Betsy Stuen-Walker and Emily Williams are very excited to announce Helen Callus as the guest viola clinician. We invite you to submit your proposals and ideas for the conference sessions. We are particularly eager for sessions that deal with viola issues. Sessions from previous years included such topics as small violas, introducing treble clef, multi-level group classes, introducing each new Suzuki Viola book…

You won’t want to miss this rare opportunity to see these inspiring professionals working with our young aspiring artists. Since Julie, Laura, and Becca were Suzuki students themselves, they are, in essence, the big sisters in our Suzuki family.
For students who would like to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity, start preparing now to submit your chamber…
