The sheer scope of the Suzuki Association of Utah’s Celebration concerts is difficult to imagine—two thousand Suzuki students playing together in one venue. But then, one sees it: the LDS Conference Center stage overflows with student musicians. They more than fill the designated stage, and a third of the students spill into the auditorium seats. Violins are by far dominant in numbers; the harpists and pianists are so numerous, they’ve formed their own concerts.

And then, the sound. Celebration organizers often refer to it as a “wall,” and the description couldn’t be more accurate. Students are surrounded, enveloped by it.…

What is a Chapter Affiliate?

A Chapter Affiliate is a local Suzuki Association that has met the requirements of the SAA to not only be endorsed by the SAA, but also to receive their support, benefits, and international recognition. Chapter Affiliates are extremely important to the SAA because they allow the philosophies and goals of the organization to be implemented at the local level, and likewise, the Chapter Affiliate receives the benefits of recognition and promotion at the national level. The SAA is pleased that the Suzuki Association of Georgia (SAGa) has applied to become a Chapter Affiliate. There are three phases to the process:

  1. Application and document submission and approval
  2. Member notification of the surrounding geographic area
  3. Finalization of the Affiliation Agreement

Due to some confusion caused by the notification of Chapter Affiliate Application sent last week, we would like to clarify that there was an error made in the name of the organization. Over the past Memorial Day weekend, at the 13th Conference in Minneapolis, the SAA was delighted to announce Heart of America Suzuki Association’s Chapter Affiliation. Founded in 1979 by Beth Titterington, HASA is one of the oldest Suzuki associations in the Americas. They have a large membership base that is concentrated in the Kansas City area and additionally surrounding counties on both the Kansas and Missouri sides.

North Carolina Suzuki teachers and families will have a variety of activities in which to participate this fall. On November 10, a state-wide play-in, open to all Suzuki instrumentalists, will be held in Greenville. The event will include large and small group classes for all levels, a family potluck, concert, and much, much more! Teachers will instruct classes, observe, and take part in a workshop on Sunday with guest clinician, Gabe Bolkovsky. John Wright and Joanne Bath will co-chair the event in Greensboro.

Local events will take place all over the state including a piano workshop in Hillsborough on September 15-16

New Chapter Affiliate

The SAA is delighted to welcome the North Carolina Suzuki Association as our newest Chapter Affiliate! At the SAA Leadership Retreat in May we recognized the North Carolina chapter President, Karen Moorman, and presented the new chapter with a certificate and warm welcome. Chapter Affiliates

The Suzuki Association of the Americas offers the Chapter Affiliate Program to Suzuki organizations across North, Central and South America who serve a specified, contiguous geographic area and strive to promote Suzuki through student activities, parent education, and teacher networking and education. Affiliation with the SAA provides increased communication, member involvement, and benefits at local, state, provincial, regional, and national levels.

Chapter Affiliate membership is achieved through a three-step process: application, public comment, and completion of the affiliation agreement. The SAA provides general support and consultation to Chapter Affiliates regarding business practices and educational programs.…
