Dr. Zachary Johnson is a classical guitarist whose talent has already been recognized with numerous awards. He has performed in venues across the United States for recitals, competitions, and festivals. He has performed most recently in venues such as Yale Sprague Memorial Hall, New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall, Northeastern University’s Fenway Center, San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s Recital Hall, and as a selected performer for the Stetson International Guitar Festival.
Aside from his performing career, Dr. Johnson is also an active teacher. He has served as a visiting adjunct professor at Florida State University and adjunct professor of guitar at Tallahassee Community College. He has taught masterclasses at Brevard Community College and Bainbridge College. He also served as head guitar teacher at the Thomasville Road Academy of the Arts and Mason’s School of Music. He is currently the Artistic Director at Florida Enrichment Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
Zachary has been the recipient of full scholarships to Yale University, Stetson University, and Florida State University. He has studied at these universities with the renowned teachers Benjamin Verdery, Dr. Stephen Robinson, and Bruce Holzman. After receiving his Bachelors from Stetson University, he would go on to receive his Masters from Yale University. Zachary has recently received his Doctorate of Music from Florida State University, where he was been selected as a Teachers Assistant to Mr. Holzman.
Zachary has also performed and studied in masterclasses with many esteemed guitarists. He has traveled to Italy to study with Andres Segovia’s protégé, Oscar Ghiglia, at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena. He was also selected to be one of six guitarists in the state of Connecticut to perform in a masterclass for John Williams, arguably the most celebrated living guitarist.
Dr. Johnson teaches privately at Whole Note Studio in Venice, FL, at the
Sarasota Suzuki Institute in Sarasota, and in Bradenton at Florida Enrichment Academy.
