Suzuki Harpists Coming Together in Minneapolis

Suzuki Harp students and teachers will gather at the Conference for a weekend of learning, sharing and inspiration. Harp sessions include Master classes and a harp session by Angela Willis; Supplemental Materials for Suzuki Harp Students, Books 1-5+ by Elinor Niemisto; “Five Different Animals”—Aria in a Classic Style by Grandjany, presented by Shru De Li Ownby; reading sessions by Mary Kay Waddington and Phala Tracy; 20 great teaching ideas by Mary Kay Waddington and a session by Delaine Fedson.

Janell Lemire is a 1981 graduate of the University of MN, Duluth. She is the solo harpist with the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchesra (since 1983),the Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra and the UMD Festival Orchestra. She is a member of the adjunct faculty at the Universtiy of MN, Duluth, the University of WI, Superior, and the College of St. Scholastica. Janell studied with nationally known harpist, Kathy Kienzle(principal harpist of the MN Orchestra and harpist of the Dale Warland Singers), and continues Suzuki training and pedagogy with Mary Kay Waddington (Suzuki harp founder). Janell is the director and harp instructor of the Lake Superior Suzuki Talent Education Program, at the University of MN Duluth. Our program offers instruction in cello, harp, guitar, piano, violin and viola to over 100 students. Ms. Lemire has been guest clinician for summer institutes in Salt Lake City, UT; Steven’s Point, WI and Lafayette, Colorado. In June, 2008, Janell and 9 Suzuki harp students performed two concerts in Madrid, Spain. They performed both solo and collaborative works witht he Suzuki Students of the Estimulos Suzuki School of Madrid. Janell is married to husband John (28 years) and raised 3 children- Nikki(harpist), Rob(cellist) and Kailee our youngest child- High School Senior and also a harpist .
