Math Vitamins

The SAA is pleased to announce the publication of a brand new, unique item: Math Vitamins for Suzuki Students by Andy J.
Felt and George Kung. The book features over 50 games for parents to play with their young children, ages 3-7.

Dr. Suzuki believed that his philosophy and approach to teaching children could be applied to any discipline, not just music. Suzuki parents and supporters, the authors readily convey their enthusiasm for what Suzuki philosophy offers to build children’s concentration and motivation for learning. They suggest that parents work each day with their child, using the graded activities provided. Some parents may wish to use the activities after Suzuki instrumental practice or as a break between shorter practice intervals. Instructions are clear and well-thought out—no math skills needed! Math Vitamins is beautifully designed and easy to use by any parent.

The book includes an illustrated game board, which the children may color and decorate, to make it uniquely their own. As their first activity, decorating their game board will generate interest and enthusiasm for the activities to follow. Dr. Andrew Felt is Associate Professor of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He has two sons, both of whom study violin at the Aber Suzuki Center.

Dr. George Kung is Professor Emeritus of Mathematical Sciences at UWSP. He spent time observing math classes at K-12 levels. The experience influenced his teaching thereafter. George’s three sons were Suzuki students at Stevens Point when they were children.

The project is a joint effort between math professors Felt and Kung, the Aber Center and its fine staff, the UWSP Design Center and the Suzuki Association of the Americas. Sales will benefit the Aber Center and the SAA.

Math Vitamins for Suzuki Students can be ordered for $17.50 from the SAA website, purchased at the Aber Center or through other outlets in the future.
