Sarah Smith, director of West Suburban Suzuki Strings in Oswego Illinois, has been playing the violin since age 5. Sarah began her studies with her father, Stan Smith, and continued her studies with Rebecca Sandrok, Debra Wood, and Almita Vamos at Western Illinois University. In 1986, she studied with Dr. Suzuki at his school, the Talent Education Institute in Matsumoto, Japan. Sarah began teaching with Aurora Suzuki (Stan Smith, director) in 1984. She taught in the Aurora Suzuki program for 26 years and combined efforts with Stan and his students until May 2009 when Stan Smith and Aurora Suzuki retired. She enjoys carrying on the Aurora Suzuki tradition with her own program, West Suburban Suzuki Strings. Sarah is a clinician at workshops and institutes throughout the United States.
