Event Description

This Unit 3 course will be held on the campus of Eastern Mennonite University on 8 Thursday mornings. Observations will be completed on-site and may be combined with some recorded lessons.

Prerequisite course:

Viola Unit 2, or Violin Unit 2

Audition: Violin Basic, or Violin Intermediate, or Violin Comprehensive, or Viola Intermediate, or Viola Comprehensive.

Deadline: All audition materials must be submitted by August 21 *

Trainer Information

Sharon Miller

Sharon Miller lives and teaches in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. She teaches violin and viola lessons for children and adults in Eastern Mennonite University’s Preparatory Music Program where she was the Program’s Director for nearly 30 years. During that time she helped to forge a partnership with Harrisonburg City Public Schools in order to provide string education in curricular and extra curricular classes. She also started and conducted the Junior Strings ensemble at EMU.

A registered Suzuki Violin Teacher Trainer, she has led teacher workshops throughout the US and in 2020 had the privilege of working with Latin American teachers at the Suzuki International Festival in Lima, Peru.

Ms. Miller was first exposed to Suzuki education in the Lynchburg City School system while studying music education at Liberty University. She received her M.Ed. (music) from Towson State University and M.M. (Suzuki Pedagogy) from East Carolina University.
