Hilton Minneapolis & Minneapolis Convention Center

As a Suzuki Community, we embrace Dr. Suzuki’s philosophy and method, using music and the discipline of learning an instrument to develop and nurture the character of a child.  Our SAA Conference Theme “Learning Suzuki-Style,” will provide an opportunity to remind us of our strong foundation, while exploring ways to bring this philosophy into an ever-changing 21st Century. We know and understand that beginning lessons at a young age, parent involvement, group classes, and listening all contribute to the success of a Suzuki student – but how does that look in 2020 … ?

Student Opportunities

SAA conferences provide numerous events designed for selected Suzuki students from across the Americas. Students may apply to participate in instrument-specific masterclasses coached by distinguished guest clinicians and master teachers and/or they may apply to participate in coached ensembles which usually culminate in a celebratory performance.
This year’s opportunities include these events:

  • Instrumental, Voice, and Chamber Group Masterclasses

  • Instrument-Specific Ensembles and Choirs:  (Advanced) Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass, Flute, Guitar, Recorder, Voice

  • Piano Ensemble featuring the Bach 3-Piano Concerto

  • Suzuki Young Artist Orchestras of the Americas (SYOA) 1 and 2

  • Suzuki Young Artists String Ensemble (SYASE)

  • International Ensembles Concert  (selected pre-formed groups from throughout our region)

  • New this year: a Baroque small ensemble including Recorders, voice, bass, strings, and others and Choir for participating students

Session Proposals

Interested in sharing your ideas and expertise in a session presentation at the Conference?
Proposals will be considered for sessions of 50- or 25-minutes.
Formats may include lectures, demonstrations, interactive playing sessions, and panel discussions.
Interactive sessions and sessions providing playing opportunities for audience participants are highly encouraged.

The proposal submission form will be available on the website in a few weeks.
