A Collaborating Community

Sharing ideas and working together come naturally to musicians, especially those in the Suzuki community! The 2018 conference will be an opportunity to gather and share ideas with a focus on the ways in which teachers, parents, and students can work together in support of each other. The theme “A Collaborating Community” invites us to explore the many different forms collaboration can take, both within and outside the SAA community.

Proposing Conference Sessions

Sessions are the cornerstone of the national biennial conference: a wealth of knowledge and inspiration on a wide range of topics, and an opportunity of your SAA Membership. Presentations may be specific to an instrument area or fall into a broader category like outreach, studio management, Suzuki heritage and history, workshop logistics, health and wellness, teaching tools, communication, rhythm, and reading, or technology.

Topics with a focus on collaboration are particularly encouraged this year.

Episode 5:

“Skills I didn’t know my child had”

When is the ideal age to start a music education? Many teachers start students as young as 3 and 4 years old, but Dorothy Jones took to heart Dr. Suzuki’s admonition to focus on the babies. In this episode we hear about the development of the Suzuki Early Childhood Education program as well as the potential for babies and the adults closest to them.

Suzuki Filosofía course in University setting.

The Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City recently opened the School of Fine Arts. Dr. Gabriel Pliego, SAA board member, is the director of the School of Fine Arts. Knowing that the Suzuki Philosophy has proved to be an excellent teaching method, Dr. Pliego has included as part of the curriculum, the complete “Filosofía” course, created and taught by the SAA Teacher Trainer Caroline Fraser.

	Your SAA Membership Opportunity

Studio Memberships

Fall is around the corner—time to plan for SAA memberships for families. Studio Memberships are a great way for families to support the SAA and receive the quarterly American Suzuki Journal. Teacher members of the SAA may collect 10 or more Associate Memberships from families in their studio for only $30 USD per family. To do so, send the SAA a typed list stating each family’s address, email, phone, instrument, plus payment.

Connecting families to the SAA and educating families with the journal will strengthen your studio!
