SAA Giving Day December 15th

We thank those who have given to the SAA during the last year. If you haven’t had a chance to contribute yet, we still welcome any year-end tax deductible donations. Many giving options exist to help our association grow and maintain its services to the greater Suzuki community. Check out these unique donation opportunities, below.

  • Consider honoring someone special in your life by dedicating a star in their name! Visit the updated Giving Galaxy of Stars and choose a shining star that best fits your wishes. Whether bronze, silver, gold, or a full constellation, your tribute will be everlasting in the full galaxy.
  • Donate to one of the Scholarship Funds, which enable teachers to start or further their valuable teacher training. Your impact on another teacher’s life will help make their dream come true, and spread Suzuki education around the world.
  • Contribute to the fall We Are Suzuki annual fund drive, which helps support the Suzuki community as a whole.

We appreciate the generosity of all, which truly helps us fulfill Dr. Suzuki’s dream.

IRSTE Research Survey

On behalf of the Suzuki Association of the Americas, we would like to tell you about an opportunity for SAA members. The International Research Symposium In Talent Education (IRSTE), is undertaking an important research study “Report on Suzuki Programs in Canada and the United States.”

Not only will this research survey allow SAA members to report on their own personal and professional activities, but it will also help us to understand what Suzuki programs in No. America look like in the twenty-first century. The SAA has not conducted such a survey in many years, and we hope you will help us by taking part in the study this January!

Suzuki Principles in Action: Upcoming Courses

Suzuki Principles in Action (SPA) is a two day, cross-instrumental course designed to help teachers incorporate Suzuki’s principles effectively in their teaching. The inspiration for SPA came from a need, identified by both Trainers and Teacher Workshop Participants, to deal with the challenges of implementing the knowledge gained from Unit courses into the reality of day-to-day studio teaching.

The course focuses on how to teach, not what to teach, allowing the sharing of ideas among all instrument areas. SPA is based on Dr. Suzuki’s belief that knowledge is an important first step, but “knowledge plus 10,000 times” is what produces ability. Read More…

SAA Violin Committee Announces Publication of Revised Volume 7

The long wait is over! As of the first of November, the Revised Edition of Suzuki Violin School Volume 7 has been on the market from Alfred Music. The book is available in two formats: violin part alone with accompanying CD for purchase, or book and CD combination. The Piano Accompaniment book is also available. The SAA Violin Committee would like to thank Linda Perry, pianist for all the new recordings, in consultation with Doris Preucil, for their fine work. We know you will enjoy the performances by William Preucil on the revised CD.

This revised edition reflects the work not only of the ISA Violin Committee, but also that of all five regional violin committees, and countless Suzuki teachers across the globe. Here in the SAA, our Committee reached out to all current active violin trainers, as well as sponsoring sessions for teachers at institutes and workshops over a two-year period. That feedback was invaluable for the Committee’s work. We appreciate the suggestions and expertise of all involved.
